Sail Away Baby Pillow

Sail Away Baby Pillow is an elegantly classic, linen pillow case decorated with a net darned band of sail boats and the word “Baby”. Espiguetas make a lovely frame for the darning and a small grid makes a detailed design possible. Although time consuming, net darning is not difficult, and the results are stunning.

Students will learn to withdraw the fabric threads, secure the cut edges with espiguetas (a herringbone-type stitch), prepare the grid, and add the design using net darning. Basic hemstitching will also be covered. Because the steps must be completed in sequence, premade netting will be provided so that all stitches will be covered in class. Students will sew the side seams by machine at home.

Students may choose to use the baby’s actual name and for a girl, stitch the pillow in pink with hearts instead of sailboats.

Basic Sewing Supplies. Individual task light and magnification are essential. Optional supplies include used sewing machine needle to pull threads, curved blade embroidery scissors, and Thread Heaven.

Kit Contents:

Fine linen (white), DMC 50 sewing thread, DMC floss, Needles, practice net, and Instructions including color photos.Your choice of pink or blue threads. Pillow form not included.
